The Wednesday Afternoon Duplicate Bridge Club’s June 1 game was stratified, used the Mitchell movement and was directed by Virginia Seaver.

The North-South winners were led by Virginia Seaver and Madelyn Jenks followed by Phyllis Brownlee and Sally Davis. Betty Spalsbury and Margrete Hartman placed third in A and first in B with Klee Zaricky and Betty Collier at fourth in A.

The East-West winners were Mona Bell and Julia Brooks followed by Yvonne Hedges and Sally Taylor. Shirley Reese and Shirlie Vaughn placed third in A followed by Carol Ball and Nita Scales at fourth in A and first in B. Lois Clark and Catherine Blumenfeld were second in B.

The North-South winners were Barbara Hamilton and Bill Hamilton followed by Ilse Steinhardt and Jo Andersen. Mike Lee and Earl Core placed third followed by Don Daugherty and Harry Talley.

The East-West winners were Grant Sutton and Sam Pierron followed by Sherri Krentzel and Virginia Hamilton. Emily Foster and Albert Ballard placed third.

The Friday Afternoon Bridge Club’s June 3 game was stratified, used the Mitchell movement and was directed by Don Brennaman.

The North-South winners were Betty Spalsbury and Don Brennaman at first in A and B, followed by Klee Zaricky and Chris Lane at second in A. Eldon Herd and Patt Radford were third in A with Lynn Hui and Harry Shaffer at fourth in A. Janice Hollowell and Gladys Rivard placed second in B and first in C.

The East-West winners were Betty Collier and Yvonne Hedges followed by Sally Taylor and Virginia Seaver. Judy Bevan and Mary Beth Treece placed third in A and first in B and C with Mona Bell and Madelyn Jenks at fourth in A and second in B. Carol Ball and Nita Scales placed third in B and second in C.

The Sunday Afternoon Duplicate Bridge Club’s game used the Howell movement and was directed by Eldon Herd. The winners were Harriett Olson and Patt Radford followed by Chris Lane and Yvonne Hedges. Barbara Hamilton and Bill Hamilton placed third followed by Mary Beth Treece and Judy Bevan. Helen Huffman and Robert Huffman placed fifth.

The North-South winners were Kent McCullough and Larry Bodle followed by Chris Lane and Klee Zaricky at second in A and first in B. Clyde Romer and Steven Phelps were third in A and second in B followed by Patt Radford and Betty Collier at fourth in A. Madelyn Jenks and Phyllis Brownlee were fifth in A and third in B followed by Barbara Hamilton and Bill Hamilton at fourth in B and first in C. Pat Burgstahler and Margarete Hartman were second in C.

The East-West winners were Paul Heitzman and Donna Johnson followed by John Hickey and James Kelley. Cathy Blumenfeld and Michael Blumenfeld were third in A, first in B and first in C followed by Julia Brooks and Virginia Seaver at fourth in A. Grant Sutton and Russell LaForce were fifth in A, second in B and second in C then Yvonne Hedges and Shirley Reese placed sixth in A. Shirlie Vaughn and Carol Ball placed third in B.

University Bridge Club announces the winners of its June 4 game. Hosts were Lois Liebert, Nancy Elbrader, and Dottie and Hank Miller.

Blue winners were: Dale Kring, first; Carl Schaake, second; Dottie Miller, third; Dan Harden, fourth; and Bebe Huxtable, fifth.

Pink winners were: Wanda Kring, first; Isabelle Schaake, second; Donna Riehm, third; Jane Golden, fourth; and Iva Koleber, fifth.

Carol Wallace was the guest speaker at the Lawrence Breakfast Optimists meeting. Wallace spoke about participation in American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life. She showed a short video, taped by a young cancer survivor and her family. Club members participated in the Lawrence Relay for Life this weekend. Installation of 2005-2006 officers for Soroptimist International of Lawrence was June 6. New officers are: Dottie Nordlund, president; Jude McDaniel, president-elect; Linda Mullens, treasurer; Bev Hill, secretary; and Barbara Murphy and Jo Ann Kappelman, delegates.

Soroptimist is an international volunteer service organization for business and professional women.
