Melvin, Mystics edge Lynx

? Chasity Melvin scored 17 points to lead the Washington Mystics past the Minnesota Lynx, 74-71, Friday night at the MCI Center.

Reserve DeLisha Milton-Jones had 16 points, Alana Beard had 14 in her first game back since injuring her right ankle, and Temeka Johnson added 12 for the Mystics (2-3).

Katie Smith led the Lynx (1-3) with 20 points. Stacey Lovelace added 13 points, and Nicole Ohlde and Svetlana Abrosimova each had 11. The Lynx led 36-33 at halftime.

Shock 68, Liberty 66, OT

Auburn Hills, Mich. – Deanna Nolan scored 27 of her franchise-record 34 points after halftime to lead the unbeaten Shock.

The Shock (4-0), coming off a nine-day layoff after playing their first three games in a four-game span, beat the Liberty (1-3) for the second time this season.

Nolan finished 9-of-19 from the field and 13-of-16 from the free-throw line. She broke Sandy Brondello’s six-year-old team record of 33 points.

Crystal Robinson led the Liberty with 13 points. New York led by 13 midway through the second half before the Shock began their comeback and tied the game at 54 at the end of regulation.
