¢ Double Winner: Lawrence’s Bridgette Berry won the long jump and the 100-meter dash and placed second in the 200 in the U-10 division of the Olathe Invitational track and field meet.

¢ National Qualifier: Lawrence’s Taylor Bird, Jasmyn Turner, Shelby Miller, Ashley Hill and Cassie Potter play for the U-13 Missouri Valley Eclipse basketball team that won the Missouri regional and qualified for the AAU nationals. Also, Lawrence’s Danielle Bird and Tonganoxie’s Ali Pistora play for the U-15 Eclipse team that placed second in the Missouri regional and also qualified for nationals. In addition, Danielle Bird and Drew Huff will be going to the AAU Junior Olympics.

¢ Heptathlon Champ: Williams College senior Joyia Chadwick, a Free State High product, won the heptathlon at the NCAA Division III track championships at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. Chadwick set a school record with a point total of 4,931. She also set a school javelin record with a toss of 125-9.

¢ Roberts Takes Tourney: Conrad Roberts shot a 76 and won Sunday’s Jayhawk Golf Club tournament at Alvamar by two strokes over Mike Naegele. Chris Anderson shot 79 and Kent Beisner 80. In net scoring, Richard High and Steve Crawford were low, each with 69. Tony Kisner shot 71 and Tom Taylor 72.

¢ Age-Group Champs: Joe Oberzan and Dee Boeck of Lawrence won age-group titles in the Amy Thompson Run on Monday in Kansas City, Mo. Oberzan won the men’s 60-64 5K and Boeck the women’s 55-59 8K.

¢ Baseball Camp: Five Tool Baseball School is taking registrations for its camp for youths ages 6-16 Monday through Thursday at Free State High’s facility. For information, e-mail Lee Ice at ice@sunflower.com or call 843-0467.

¢ Phenix U-18 Qualifies: Lawrence Phenix U-18 girls softball placed second in the Memorial Day Tournament in Shawnee and qualified for the USSSA World Series in late July. Team members are Danielle Torres, Kristine Harrall, Samantha Hays, Carissa Art, Sarah Flaherty, Cindy Rupp, Lauren Peel, Brynn Hamilton, Alissa Hamilton, Amy Bullerman, Whitney Juneau and Kayla Moyer. Coaches are Tom Harrall and John Hamilton.
