Councilwoman to fill legislative seat

? A Prairie Village councilwoman has been selected to replace a state legislator who gave up his seat to become vice president of sales and marketing for Delta Dental of Kansas, the state’s largest provider of dental coverage.

Johnson County Republican Party committee members in the state’s 21st District selected Kay Wolf on Friday. She replaces Rep. Dean Newton, whose last day as a legislator was July 22.

Others who were considered for the job were Prairie Village Councilwoman Dana Sharp and former state Board of Education chairwoman Linda Holloway. Wolf was elected on the fourth ballot.

She listed school funding, the budget and Medicaid as key issues facing the Legislature.

Wolf said she wants school funding to be increased, and she wants communities to be able to raise school funds themselves.
