Ex-officer gets 30 years in child pornography case

? A former police officer charged in a federal child sex and pornography ring was sentenced Friday to 30 years and five months in prison.

Adam James Brown, a former Riverside, Calif., police officer, flew to Beaver Dam twice to have sex with boys, according to court records. As part of a plea deal, he pleaded guilty in March to one count of crossing state lines to have sex with a child and one count of producing child pornography.

U.S. District Judge William Griesbach also added eight years of extended supervision to Brown’s sentence.

According to court records, the ring’s leader, William Martin, supplied the boys to Brown after the men met over the Internet.

Authorities said Brown, 32, testified against Martin, 34, of Beaver Dam, Wis., and Kurt Sandvig, 44, of Kansas City, Mo., as part of the plea deal.

Sandvig was sentenced Wednesday to 30 years in prison and five years of extended supervision on the same two counts as Brown.

Martin pleaded guilty in May to three counts of enticing a minor to engage in a sexual act for the purpose of producing pornography. His sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 4.

According to Martin’s plea agreement, the case developed after Michigan authorities searched the home of Brian Urbanawiz of Midland, Mich., in December of 2003.

Authorities said Urbanawiz was part of an Internet club whose members produced and shared photographs, videos and live broadcasts of children being sexually assaulted.

Urbanawiz was sentenced in Michigan to at least 35 years in prison after pleading guilty last year to four counts of first-degree sexual conduct with children younger than 13.
