Body discovered; no foul play suspected

No foul play is suspected in the discovery of a man’s body late Saturday afternoon in an apartment at 1244 Ohio, Lawrence Police said.

Police did not know the cause of death, but said the 46-year-old man had an extensive history of medical problems. Police didn’t think the death was heat-related.

Expanded hours are cause for celebration

The Lawrence Community Blood Center will celebrate new, expanded hours Tuesday, Aug. 2 with an open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The center at 1410 Kasold Drive is expanding its hours to better serve a growing number of donors and the needs of hospitals, officials said.

The ribbon-cutting will take place at 11:30 a.m. and will be followed by the serving of sandwiches from Mr. Goodcents Subs & Pastas.

Starting Monday, Aug. 1, the center will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Fridays; and 8 a.m. to noon on the first, third and fifth Saturdays of the month.

Baker president gets Rotarian award

Dan Lambert, president of Baker University, has been given the 2004-05 Rotary District 5710 Centennial Service Award for Professional Excellence.

The district covers nearly a third of eastern Kansas.

Lambert has been at Baker since 1987. He previously was vice president of William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo.

It is easier and quicker now to access Franklin County District Court records.

The records can be found on the state of Kansas’ official Web site, www.accessKansas.org.
