Volunteer Center offers youth opportunities

The Youth Volunteer Council, sponsored by the Roger Hill Volunteer Center, can help youths stay busy over the summer break. This group organizes several volunteer opportunities per month during the summer. Volunteer projects are planned for the following Saturdays: July 9, July 16, July 23 and Aug. 7. Immediate volunteer needs

¢ The Douglas County AIDS Project (DCAP) is seeking volunteers. Volunteers are utilized in all aspects of agency programs and services including fundraising, public education and outreach efforts, office assistance and providing support for people living with HIV. Prospective volunteers are required to attend a two-hour volunteer orientation. Volunteer orientation is provided once per month; the next session will be from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. July 21. ¢ ATR Centers, a nonprofit agency providing speech and physical therapy for children, needs a volunteer to assist the director with bookkeeping and light data entry. Training will be provided. For more information, contact Dr. Dee Singer at 841-5215.

¢ Operation WildLife provides rehabilitation services to injured or orphaned wild animals, as well as wildlife education programs, and is seeking new wildlife caretaker volunteers for their main facility in Linwood, north of Eudora. ¢ Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen is seeking a volunteer to act as treasurer. The treasurer’s responsibilities include, but may not be limited to the following: providing monthly reports to the board of directors; producing annual financial reports; payroll for one part-time employee; banking activities and record-keeping, especially during fundraising drives; submitting an annual 990 form; and general oversight of a $25,000 annual budget.
