Police say man’s injuries the result of a fall

Lawrence Police say the head injuries suffered by a man found in an alley near downtown this morning were the result of an accidental fall.

Spokesman Sgt. Dan Ward said police believe the man hit his head on the ground when he fell sometime before 7:30 a.m. today in the alley between Connecticut and Rhode Island Streets south of Seventh Street.

Around 8:30 a.m., Lawrence Police officers taped off the entrance to the west alley at 7th and Connecticut Streets, where Life Flight took a patient to a Kansas City Hospital.

A city employee on his way to work called police after spotting the man injured on the ground. The man was taken by ambulance to Hobbs Park, where he was transferred to a helicopter and flown to a Kansas City area hospital.

Policie initially said they didn’t know what had caused the injuries, and crime-scene investigators studied the scene.

An update on the man’s condition is not yet available from the hospital.
