Sigler Shines: Jeff Sigler of Lawrence paced all Kansas finishers in the Rock and Roll Arizona Marathon Jan. 9 in Phoenix. Sigler was 434th in the field of nearly 30,000. He was clocked in 3:30:00. Other Lawrence runners were Mickey Woolard, Andrew Bauch, Laurel Maslowski, Brian Wilkerson, Carla Phipps and Susan Sigler. Baldwin’s Heather Magers also finished.

KU Baseball Skills: Kansas University’s baseball staff will offer semi-private instruction on Sunday evenings in February. Areas of instruction include pitching mechanics, swing development, defensive drills and base-running. For information, call 864-7955.

Jayhawks Take Two Titles: Sport 2 Sport Jayhawks seventh grade boys basketball team won two tournaments — the Emporia MAYB Jan. 8-9 and the Lawrence MAYB Jan. 22-23. Team members are Scott Brenn, Drake DeBiasse, Nick Hassig, Mark Laskowski, Michael McCabe, Chase McElhaney, Ryan Scott and Coulter Vestal.

Riley, Boeck Winners: Lawrence’s Matt Riley and Dee Boeck captured age-group titles at the Topeka-to-Auburn Half Marathon. Three Lawrence runners — Karen Hyde, Keith Dowell and Jack Hope — placed second in their age divisions.

Regional Mat Meet Set: Prairie Fire Wrestling Club will play host to the girls Midwest regional championships Feb. 20 at Lawrence High. Girls ages 18 and under are eligible. For information, call 832-1288.

Mat Medals: Trey Jimboy of Prairie Fire Wrestling Club earned a gold medal and teammate Dylan Housworth a bronze at a tournament Saturday in Eudora. In a novice tourney Sunday at Gardner-Edgerton, PFWC’s Brittany Brown pocketed a first-place and Corban Schmidt a third-place.

Tennis Standouts: Taylor Eubanks of Lawrence’s Falbo Tennis Academy finished second in the girls 12s at the Kansas City Grand Prix. FTA’s Brooke Sutherland finished sixth in the girls 16s, and Taylor Serrate was fourth in the boys 14s division.

Aquahawk Shines: Emma Reaney of the Lawrence Aquahawks earned five first places and a third place in the Midwest All-Stars swim meet at LIAC. Reaney was the top scorer in the girls 11-12 division and broke the meet record in the 200 IM. The Aquahawks’ Morgan Flannigan earned two seconds and Mitch Moore one in the meet that drew entries from six states.
