School shifts

To the editor:

Hillcrest School parents should be aware that the upcoming school board meeting, Feb. 14, and subsequent public hearings will be looking at proposed boundary changes that will shift Hillcrest students to other elementary schools.

Boundary committee members have cited “overcrowding” at Hillcrest as the reason for changing boundaries; but in talking to teachers and staff at Hillcrest, not a single one says the school is being adversely affected in the education it delivers by the number of students it serves. To my knowledge, there is no financial benefit for USD 497 in moving students to another school.

There is, however, a family component, one that affects MY family and up to 40 others in a negative way when these kids will be forced to adapt to another school.
