K-State women hammer Cyclones

? Kendra Wecker scored 26 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead No. 16 Kansas State to a 74-52 victory over No. 18 Iowa State on Tuesday night.

Claire Coggins and Laurie Koehn each added 13 points for the Wildcats (15-3, 6-1 Big 12), who were coming off a 55-53 victory over then-No. 10 Texas Tech on Saturday. Kansas State moved into first place in the Big 12.

Katie Robinette had 23 points and eight rebounds to lead the Cyclones (15-2, 5-1), who had their 12-game winning streak stopped.

Anne O’Neil, Iowa State’s leading scorer, was held to nine points on 3-for-13 shooting.

Iowa State had its worst shooting performance from beyond the three-point line, going 3-for-25 .

Kansas State capitalized on the Cyclones’ poor early shooting. Coggins hit a deep three-pointer in the first minute and punctuated an opening 22-4 run with another three-pointer.

Iowa State rallied within 33-24 with 2:47 left in the first half, but Chelsea Domenico curled in a three-pointer and Koehn added another three less than a minute later, extending Kansas State’s lead to 39-26 at the break.

Kansas State maintained its double-digit lead the rest of the way, using a 15-3 run midway through the second half to push its lead to 58-35. Wecker initiated the run off a nifty feed from Coggins, who also had a career-high seven assists, and Coggins ended the surge with her third three-pointer of the game.

The Wildcats outrebounded Iowa State 60-37, including 26-11 on the offensive glass
