Kansas confident after win

Victory over Mizzou still fresh for Kansas heading to Colorado

? Kansas University’s women’s basketball team appears headed in the right direction after notching its first Big 12 Conference victory Saturday against Missouri.

Now the Jayhawks will try to secure their first Big 12 road win today against Colorado.

Tipoff will be at 8 p.m. at the Coors Events Center. The game will be televised live on Sunflower Broadband Channel 6.

In a season of ups and downs, the Jayhawks are on an upswing since hitting rock bottom against Iowa State Jan. 12. KU mustered a mere 37 points in bowing to the Cyclones. Since then, Kansas has dropped a two-point decision (62-60) at Texas A&M, and defeated Missouri by a basket (63-61).

“We’ve talked about staying off the roller coaster,” KU coach Bonnie Henrickson said. “It’s never as good as it seems or as bad as it seems.”

Both Kansas and Colorado will enter today’s game with records of 8-8 overall and 1-4 in the league.

The Buffaloes, once among the nation’s elite women’s programs, also have fallen on hard times. Colorado hit the skids Saturday with an overtime loss at Oklahoma State.

The Buffs rank last in the Big 12 in defense and aren’t much better on offense. The Buffaloes rank ninth in the Big 12 in scoring, but have an advantage in that they don’t rely on any one player for points. Forward Anna Nedovic leads Colorado in scoring, averaging 11 points a game. But the Buffaloes have four other players close on her heels, all averaging eight points or more.

KU ranks fourth in the Big 12 in scoring defense, but near the bottom in scoring offense.

Kansas is scheduled to travel to Lincoln, Neb., Saturday for a 7 p.m. meeting with Nebraska. The next home game will be at 7 p.m. Feb. 2 against Oklahoma.
