Jack J. Fink, Garnett

? Services for Jack J. Fink, 77, Garnett, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Garnett Presbyterian Church. He was cremated.

Mr. Fink died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, at his home.

He was born Aug. 19, 1927, in Lucerne, the son of Clinton C. and Dora A. Treu Fink. He graduated from Quinter High School in 1945 and Kansas University in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science degree in business.

He graduated from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in 1945. He served in the U.S. Merchant Marines for three years and participated in troop transportation during World War II. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1950 during the Korean War. He served as a radio operator and earned an Army Occupation Medal in Germany. He was honorably discharged on Nov. 18, 1952, as a technical sergeant.

He was a sales representative and manager from 1956 to 1976 for American Can Co. He worked from 1976 to 1981 at Dubuque Packing Co. and owned and operated Hi-Country Products in Denver from 1981 until he retired in 1991.

He had lived in Dallas, San Francisco, Bridgewater, N.J., Fairfield, Conn. and Denver, and moved to Garnett in 1991.

Mr. Fink was a member of Garnett Presbyterian Church, the Garnett Rotary Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post No. 6397 in Garnett and American Legion Fuller Thompson Post No. 48 in Garnett. He had been a member of the Masonic Lodge in Quinter and Ahmes Shrine of San Francisco. He organized and conducted computer classes in Garnett. He was a political reporter for the Anderson County Review, served as treasurer for the Anderson County Republican Party and was a precinct committeeman.

He married Kathryn Cook on Sept. 1, 1954, in Garnett. She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include a son, Christopher C., Garnett; a daughter, Rebecca O’Connell, El Dorado; a sister, JoAn Wilson, Lawrence; and five grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to Hospice Care of Kansas or the church, sent in care of Dengel and Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa 66067.
