FSHS to honor senior wrestlers

Free State High will honor its senior wrestlers at 6:45 tonight at FSHS following its junior varsity dual against Lawrence High.

Seniors Alex Benson (135 pounds), Dale Sipple (145) and Ricky Lockner (275) will be in the lineup for the varsity dual against the Lions, which will start approximately 7:30 p.m., following and LHS-FSHS alumni dual. Junior-varsity wrestler Sara Hilliard (160) and Troy Rousselo, who is injured and won’t compete tonight, also will be honored in the Senior Night ceremony.

The junior varsity dual will start things off at 6 p.m. and will be followed by “five or six” matches between former Lions and Firebirds.

It’s the first time the schools have attempted the alumni dual.

“We want to get this set up to where we can fill all 14 weight classes,” FSHS coach Darrell Andrew said, “but we just don’t have a big enough alumni base yet.”

Lawrence High’s Nolan Kellerman (160) takes a perfect 28-0 record into the varsity dual. He finished 4-0 over the weekend at the Blue Valley Northwest tournament, including a 7-1 victory over Free State’s K.J. Siebert. Siebert finished third.
