Douglas County commissioners approved a deal Monday to keep emergency-communications equipment working.

Commissioners approved a $32,178 annual maintenance agreement with Motorola Inc. for hardware and software for dispatch and mobile data equipment.

In other action, commissioners:

• delayed action on a request from Verizon Wireless for a conditional-use permit for a communication tower.
• approved the final plat for the Raeta subdivision, which is a 13-lot residential subdivision west of Stull on about 159 acres at the northeast corner of East 50 and North 1600 roads along County Road 442.
• discussed a draft of intersection and entrance spacing standards.

Court space

Also Monday, commissioners encouraged district court officials to start thinking about space needs in the future.

Commissioners met with the Douglas County District Court judges over the noon hour to discuss how things were going, ask general questions and find out possible future needs.

Douglas County District Court Chief Judge Robert Fairchild indicated the courts may need more courtroom space in the future. There wouldn’t be enough room in the judicial building, 111 E. 11th St., for the courts to expand given the facility’s current setup.

“Think out 10 to 15 years,” Commissioner Bob Johnson said. “We need to start thinking about it now.”

Johnson said there were departments currently housed in the building that could be moved to allow the bulk of county’s courtrooms to remain in the judicial building.
