Six picked as new district judge

Gov. Kathleen Sebelius has announced that Steven N. Six is her choice to be Douglas County’s newest District Court judge.

Six, 39, is a partner in the law firm Shamberg, Johnson & Bergman in Kansas City, Mo. who specializes in representing plaintiffs in personal-injury and product liability cases. He is the son of retired Kansas Supreme Court Justice Fred Six of Lawrence.

Sebelius chose Six over Jim George, a Lawrence criminal defender, and Peggy Kittel, who has served on the bench in a limited role the past three years as District Court Judge Pro Tem.

Six will fill a seat created last year by the Legislature to help meet a growing caseload.
