Free State orchestra, choir to perform

The Free State High School Men’s Choir will be guests on the program when the Free State Symphony Orchestra perform Wednesday at the high school, 4700 Overland Drive.

Two soloists — Andrew Kong, marimba, and Kyle Chauvin, piano — will perform with the orchestra, which is under the direction of Lynn Basow. The choir is led by Pam Bushouse.

The concert is at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Admission is free.

Program highlights include the Creston Marimba Concertino and the Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 4.

The orchestra and choir will be presenting their respective music to be performed at the Kansas Music Educator’s Assn. Convention on Saturday in Wichita. These two groups — along with the West Junior High Symphonic Band, under the direction of Patrick Kelly, and the Lawrence High Symphonic Band, under the direction of Mike Jones, were selected to represent the Lawrence schools.
