Lucile Stalcup, Lawrence

Private inurnment services for Lucile Stalcup, 92, Lawrence, will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Fairfax, Mo.

Mrs. Stalcup died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2005, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

She was born Oct. 6, 1912, in Fairfax, the daughter of C.J. and Ethel Peden Lackey.

She received a Bachelor of Science in education in 1934 from Missouri State Teachers College and a Master of Science in education in 1938 from The Ohio State University. She moved to Lawrence in 1952.

Mrs. Stalcup was a teacher from 1935 to 1976. She taught at Deerfield, East Heights, Hillcrest, New York, Sunset and Woodlawn schools, all in Lawrence, and other public schools in Kansas, Michigan and Missouri.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church and Delta Kappa Gamma, the society for female educators. She was active for more than 50 years in FZ Chapter of P.E.O. She volunteered at Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen for many years.

She married Max Stalcup on July 19, 1940, in Baton Rouge, La. He died in 1998.

Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Mendlick, Olathe, and Mary Ann Stalcup, Pensacola, Fla.; a son, W.M. Stalcup Jr., Cheyenne, Wyo.; and five grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to the Palliative Care Unit at Lawrence Memorial Hospital or the Max and Lucile Stalcup Lawrence Education Foundation Scholarship, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
