Weather a sweet treat for Valentine’s Day

The sun is out, the sky is blue and “we have a lovely Valentine’s treat for you — 63 degrees,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“Get outside today for Valentine’s Day,” Schack said. “It will be a great day.”

Schack said skies should be clear, with only a few high thin clouds moving in this afternoon.

“We do have a chilly start,” she said. At 8:45 a.m., the temperature in Lawrence was 33, with mostly clear skies. She said the sunny skies will help to begin quickly bringing those temperatures up well past the average high for this date of 45 degrees.

She said all the weekend rains have moved out to the east. Mild air was moving in from the west, bringing temperatures into the 60s today.

“But it’s basically a one-day warm-up,” she said. A cold front will move in from Nebraska overnight, dropping the temperature to a low of 33 by early Tuesday morning, she said.

Tuesday will be cloudy and blustery, with the temperature rising to 44 and northerly winds 10 to 20 mph, she said.

Wednesday morning’s low will be 24, with the high Wednesday reaching only 39, under mostly cloudy skies.
