6News video: Art a la Carte

Valentine’s Day is Monday and a trio of weekend arts happenings capitalizes on that theme.

Those who enjoy performances that push the envelope will likely find much to appreciate in two one-act plays being staged by E.M.U. Theatre. “Self Torture and Strenuous Exercise” and “Futz” both examine relationships that are unconventional to say the least. The double bill open at 8 tonight and runs this weekend and next at the Lawrence Arts Center.

Artists at two Lawrence galleries are sharing their interpretations of Cupid’s holiday. The Olive Gallery invited artists to submit their takes on romance for an exhibition called “Who Do You Love?” There was no jury for the show, so everything got in. Needless to say, it’s a diverse display.

And at Van Go Mobile Arts’ east Lawrence studio, an exhibition of holiday-themed gifts created by local teens opens tonight. Decorated boxes, picture frames, glass bowls and magnets, and hand-painted ceramic tiles are among the items available. There’s a reception from 5 to 7 tonight and the show continues through next Friday.
