Shuffling the deck

To the editor:

The recent reshuffling of the bureaucratic deck of cards and the claim that we now as a nation are safer is truly ridiculous. Consider the fact that our borders remain open, the vast bulk of our cargo containers go uninspected at our ports and our nuclear plants remain vulnerable both by the air and the ground. Also, the fact that we have no plans to identify or hold to account the millions of illegal immigrants living among us can easily be compared to carefully rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic as the band plays “Nearer My God to Thee.”
