Tech tied atop league, but loses Greenwalt

No. 13 Red Raiders rout No. 14 Cyclones to climb into three-way tie in Big 12

? Cisti Greenwalt and Erin Grant each scored 19 points, and No. 13 Texas Tech took a share of the Big 12 Conference lead with an 89-62 victory Tuesday night over No. 14 Iowa State.

The win, tempered by an injury to Greenwalt, put the Red Raiders (17-4, 8-2 Big 12) in a three-way tie with Iowa State (18-3, 8-2) and Kansas State.

Greenwalt, averaging 13.6 points a game and leading the conference in blocked shots with 76, left the game with about five minutes left when she fell while playing defense under the Cyclones’ basket, spraining her ankle.

Anne O’Neil scored 23 points to lead the Cyclones.

Tech opened the second half with a 9-3 run to take a 48-39 lead from which Iowa State never recovered.

Five of those points came from Chesley Dabbs, held scoreless in the first half. Three came when Greenwalt got her third three-point play. She had two late in the first half.

Tech’s largest lead, 89-59, came on a three-pointer by Dabbs with 53 seconds remaining. That lead came on the heels of a 33-13 spurt that began when Iowa State trailed 54-49 with 13:20 left.

Tech had four players in double figures. Dabbs scored 14 points, and LaToya Davis added 12. Grant’s total was a season high, and she added 10 assists.

Katie Robinette and Lisa Kriener each added 12 points for Iowa State. Robinette also had 12 rebounds.

Tech held Mary Fox scoreless. She was averaging 10.1 points a game.

Tech led 39-36 at halftime. The Red Raiders came back from an 11-0 run by the Cyclones that put Iowa State up 15-8. The run included three-pointers by Megan Ronhovde, O’Neil and Kriener, all in less than a minute. Tech responded with an 11-2 surge in which five players scored.

Texas A&M 88,

TAMU-Corpus Christi 64

College Station, Texas — Ashley Bolden came off the bench to score 26 points for Texas A&M.

Bolden made four of six three-pointers for the Aggies (13-8), whose bench outscored the Islanders’ 36-6. Morenike Atunrase added 12 points for Texas A&M.

Terra Andrews led Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (15-5) with 21 points and 14 rebounds. Kirbria Lewis added 15 points for the Islanders, who were 2-of-14 from beyond the three-point line.

The Aggies need just one win in their remaining seven games to secure their first .500 or better season since 1996.
