KU wins again in Hilo

? Senior right-hander Clint Schambach pitched a one-hitter for seven innings, and Kansas University’s baseball squad pounded Hawaii-Hilo, 12-3, late Monday night.

It was the Jayhawks’ fourth straight baseball victory over the Vulcans at Wong Stadium.

“This is the best game he has pitched since coming to KU,” Kansas coach Ritch Price said of Schambach, who transferred last season from Elgin, Ill., Community College. “His stuff was electric tonight.”

Price was not pleased, however, that the Jayhawks made four errors, including three by his son, Ritchie, at shortstop.

“This was a very sloppy win,” Price said.

Kansas (4-0) pounded 13 hits and drew six walks off five UH-Hilo pitchers. Leadoff hitter Matt Baty had three singles. Outfielder Gus Milner and third baseman Erik Morrison each added two.

Mike Dudley slammed a pinch-hit three-run home run in KU’s four-run ninth inning. First baseman Andy Scholl had a two-run triple in the third.

Kansas was scheduled to meet the Vulcans (0-9) again in late games Tuesday night and Wednesday night before playing a weekend series at Stanford.
