City schools to have signing ceremonies

All-Sunflower League football selections Jeff Colter and Aaron Kie will sign their national letters of intent today at Lawrence High.

Colter (5-foot-9, 160 pounds) was a first-team all-league defensive back and second-team running back. He will sign with NCAA Division Two powerhouse Northwest Missouri State. Kie (6-2, 275), a first-team offensive lineman, will sign with Haskell Indian Nations University.

Both seniors will sign their letters in a 2:45 p.m. ceremony at the LHS cafeteria. Meanwhile, Ian Handshy (6-2, 210), a second-team all-league linebacker and Shrine Bowl selection, is expected to announce he will join Kansas University as a preferred walk-on.

Across town at Free State High, senior linemen Casey Ballard (6-1, 240) and Jarvis Doleman (6-2, 300) are expected to sign with Hutchinson Community College in a 2:45 p.m. ceremony in the FSHS library. Linebacker Corey Galloway (6-2, 220) will sign with Butler County Community College.

Veritas Christian School will celebrate its first signing at 8 a.m. Friday when receiver Paul Kempf signs with Sterling College.
