Old home town – 100 years ago today

From the Lawrence Daily World of Dec. 28, 1905: “The Salvation Army as usual did its full share to make this a Merry Christmas for many in Lawrence and more than 100 needy families were helped in some way or other. An other outstanding record by the “Army.” : Lawrence police are to be commended for their killing of all dogs so far found victims of rabies. The determination of the officers may have prevented many a tragedy. So far, five animals have been dispatched, all frothing at the mouth at the time they were killed.”
