Most offices closed for Christmas holiday

Government offices and public services in Lawrence and Douglas County will be closed Monday in observance of Christmas Day.

All city, county and state offices will be closed, as will federal offices in the General Services Administration and the federal courts.

City offices in most area towns and counties also will be closed.

The Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department will be closed.

Banks will be closed.

The Lawrence Transit System and the T Lift will operate Monday, while the system does not provide Sunday service. MV Transportation buses will operate Monday. Parking at meters in downtown Lawrence will be free on Monday.

The Lawrence Workforce Center will be closed.

No city yard waste pickups are scheduled Monday. City residents are asked to put yard waste out with their normal weekly trash pickup. Commercial solid waste routes scheduled for Monday will be made Tuesday.

South Park Recreation Center will be closed through Monday. The East Lawrence and the Holcom Park recreation centers will be closed Sunday and open Monday. Holiday Happenings at Holcom Park Recreation Center will begin at 8:30 a.m. Monday.

The Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive, will be closed Sunday and open Monday. Carl Knox Natatorium at Lawrence High School will be closed Monday through Jan. 8.

Eagle Bend Golf Course will be closed Sunday and open Monday, weather permitting.

Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper St., will be closed Sunday and Monday.

The Lawrence Public Library will be closed today, Sunday and Monday.

The post office will be closed Monday, and regular mail will not be delivered. Express Mail will be delivered. Regular UPS and FedEx deliveries also will not be made Sunday or Monday.

All activities at the Lawrence Senior Center, including clubs, classes and the noon meal and home-delivered meals will be canceled Monday and Tuesday. Meals those days also will not be served at Babcock Place, Edgewood Place, Lecompton, Eudora and Baldwin senior centers. Bus 62 senior service meals will be canceled Monday.

Lawrence Meals on Wheels will deliver.

The business office of the Journal-World will be open for walk-ins and phone inquiries from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday.

USA Today will not be delivered.

Liquor stores will be closed Sunday and open on Monday.
