If you’ve got any last-minute Christmas shopping to do, today’s weather will cooperate – temperatures are headed up into the upper 50s for the second day in a row.

“Get outside and enjoy it,” said Tim Reith, 6News meteorologist. “It is going to be a fantastic day across northeast Kansas.”

At 8:15 a.m., the temperature was 40 degrees, the humidity was 86 percent and winds were from the southwest at 7 mph, making the windchill factor 35 degrees. The Lawrence Municipal Airport was reporting some fog, Reith said.

Temperatures will reach into the 50s by about noon and hit a high of 58 degrees by about 4 p.m., Reith said. The average high for this date is 40 degrees.

Skies will be mostly sunny through the morning hours, but clouds will thicken up during the afternoon, he said. Winds will be from the west at 8 to 15 mph.

“Later on tonight, we have a chance for some rain showers,” Reith said. Some showers could develop after midnight, changing over to a mix of rain and light snow as the temperature drops, he said.

“I don’t think it’s going to cause any travel concerns for those of you heading out for the holiday weekend,” Reith said.

Saturday’s early morning low will be 37 degrees, with Saturday’s high reaching 42 degrees, he said.

Saturday will be breezy, with some northwest winds gusting up to around 40 mph, according to the National Weather Service. The weather service says the chance for precipitation on Saturday is 60 percent.

Reith predicted most of the precipitation will end about 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, with no snow accumulation.

“We could see our temperatures falling back into the 30s by the end of the day,” he said.

Reith’s Christmas Day forecast calls for a morning low of 23 degrees, with the high reaching 46 degrees in the afternoon.

“We should see partly cloudy skies,” Reith said.
