New principal chosen for Broken Arrow

Central Junior High School assistant principal Brian McCaffrey has been selected to replace Broken Arrow School principal Larry Bakerink at the end of the 2005-06 school year. Bakerink, 63, is retiring.

School officials announced McCaffrey’s selection Thursday.

“Brian is a great match for Broken Arrow,” Supt. Randy Weseman said.

McCaffrey is in his seventh year as assistant principal at Central. Earlier, he taught physical education and health for three years at Southwest Junior High School. He taught in Topeka five years.

Bakerink has been principal at Broken Arrow for 24 years. He was an elementary school principal and teacher for 18 years in Iowa before coming to Lawrence.

School board members are expected to vote on McCaffrey’s selection during their Jan. 9 meeting.

Broken Arrow School has 277 students this year.
