Pittsburg ? Two Frontenac High School sophomores were killed around noon Wednesday in a head-on crash after classes were dismissed early for the holiday break.

The Kansas Highway Patrol identified the victims as Stephanie Anne Baert, 16, of Arma, and Megan Leigh Bird, 15, of Frontenac. Another student in the teenager’s vehicle, Christina Smith, 15, of Pittsburg, and the two occupants of the other car were transported to hospitals in Pittsburg and Joplin, Mo.

The patrol said the crash happened on U.S. 69 in Pittsburg when the teenager’s vehicle crossed the center line and collided with an oncoming vehicle.
