Blog confession brings guilty plea from teen

? An 18-year-old pleaded guilty to DUI manslaughter after prosecutors discovered an online blog entry in which he confessed to causing a fatal crash by grabbing the steering wheel while he was riding as a passenger.

Blake Ranking initially told investigators in Tavares he remembered nothing about the October 2004 crash that killed one friend and seriously injured another. But several days after the accident, he wrote “I did it” on his blurty.com journal.

Ranking was riding in the back seat when he decided to yank the steering wheel, sending the car somersaulting off the road, according to his blog entry. The crash seriously injured the 17-year-old driver, and another passenger died of injuries afterward. The driver had no traces of drugs or alcohol in her system.

After the crash, Ranking’s blood alcohol content measured 0.185, more than double the legal limit.

“It was me who caused it. I turned the wheel. I turned the wheel that sent us off the road, into the concrete drain …” Ranking wrote in the blog. “How can I be fine when everyone else is so messed up?”
