To the editor:

Does anyone else find the account of how Paul Mirecki was attacked odd? Were these assailants waiting all night outside his home on one of the coldest nights of the year to catch him going for an unplanned drive at 6 a.m.? Did they just happen to pass him in the dark, recognize him and decide to follow him? How is it that Mr. Mirecki, a 16-plus-year resident of Lawrence, doesn’t know what road he was on? Who, after being tailgated on a cold dark country road by a “large” pickup truck, pulls over and gets out to see what the tailgater wants?

If these assailants were stalking Mr. Mirecki, why wouldn’t they wear something to conceal who they were? According to the Journal-World, he said he didn’t know them, which I take to mean that they weren’t concealing their identity.

If these people were so interested in hurting Mr. Mirecki, how is it that he was treated and released from the hospital? It seems that someone who hated Mr. Mirecki enough to attack him, would have seriously injured him. If Mr. Mirecki was attacked, his attackers should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law, but the facts as reported in the Journal-World don’t make much sense to me.
