Lawrence schools cancel classes for today

Other schools also announce cancellations

Lawrence public schools will not have classes today because of a heavy snowfall that brought snow-packed parking lots and slick sidewalks, a school district official said Wednesday night.

“Supt. Randy Weseman, after talking to the school district’s transportation and safety director and with the facilities and operations directior, decided to cancel classes for Thursday,” said Julie Boyle, the school district’s public information officer.

“We wanted to let people know early, so they have time to plan,” Boyle said.

The Lawrence area received six to eight inches of snow, leading to some organizations to close their doors today and others to cancel events and activities (See story).
