An essay contest to honor the bond between grandparents and grandchildren is being promoted by the Jayhawk Area Agency on Aging Inc. in Topeka.

The contest is for school-age children and grandparents over age 60 in Douglas, Jefferson and Shawnee counties. Essays should be written based on the theme of “what my grandchildren mean to me” and “what my grandparents mean to me.”

Prizes will be awarded for first place in each county and by age levels. The winners will be notified before Grandparents Day, which is Sept. 11.

The deadline for receiving entries is Friday. Each entry should have a name and phone number, name of school attended and county of residence. Entries should be sent to: Grandparents Day Essay Contest, 1720 S.W. Topeka Blvd., Topeka 66612.
