Allen Fieldhouse isn’t the only Kansas University venue getting a technology upgrade.

Construction is under way for a new message board to be placed at the top of the north bowl at Memorial Stadium.

Currently, 22 blue beams have been mounted vertically from the outside of the stadium — 11 on each side of the two flag poles, which stand above sections 25 and 26 directly across the field from the stadium’s MegaVision.

Associate athletic director Jim Marchiony said the board was expected to be up and running by the football season opener against Florida Atlantic on Sept. 3 and would display messages just above the top row of seats in the north bowl.

The Memorial Stadium board, manufactured by Daktronics, was a part of what Marchiony said was a $3 million project that included the new video board at Allen Fieldhouse. That board was installed earlier this month as part of a $12 million renovation to the fieldhouse that includes new lighting, a new floor, new windows and a new sound system. All that work is expected to be completed before the start of basketball season.

¢ No more Reuber: Jim Reuber, a red-shirt freshman expected to compete for playing time at tight end, no longer is a member of the football team.

Reuber was omitted from the latest roster, and an athletic-department spokesperson confirmed that Reuber no longer was with the Jayhawks. He never played a down for KU.

With Reuber gone, Derek Fine is the leader for starting tight end, with freshmen Russell Brorsen and Josh Bell also in the mix.

Fullback Austine Nwabuisi had a nine-yard reception for the New York Jets in a preseason game last week against Detroit. He’s listed fourth on the Jets’ depth chart.

Brandon Rideau, competing for a wide-receiver spot on the Cleveland Browns, also hauled in a nine-yard reception in his first preseason game, a 17-14 Browns victory over the New York Giants.

Tight end Lyonel Anderson, meanwhile, still is a member of the Cincinnati Bengals, though he’s not on the Bengals’ depth chart and didn’t record any stats in the preseason opener.
