A Lawrence man was transported to the hospital with head and arm injuries after an early morning crash near the eastern terminal of the Kansas Turnpike.

Eric Michael White, 21, swerved his 1994 Chevrolet pickup truck to avoid debris from a separate accident and struck the highway’s barrier wall at 3:41 a.m. today about 10 miles to the east of the East Lawrence exit, according to a report from the Kansas Turnpike Authority.

That separate accident occurred one minute earlier when 22-year-old Corrine Vandenberg, of Edwardsville,went off the road to the right in her 1997 Hyundai, swerved back to the left to correct and then struck the barrier, a separate KTA report said. Vandenberg was uninjured.

A third KTA report outlines another non-injury incident for the same area at 3:56 a.m. when an ambulance apparently struck the driver’s side mirror of a semi-truck. The truck driver received a new mirror from a maitenance shop.

The report on White’s accident indicated it was unknown whether he wore a seat belt. He was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital for treatment of head and arm injuries, and the accident damaged the roadway and equipment, the report said.

White was treated and released from LMH, said Janice Early-Weas, a spokeswoman for the hospital.
