Spring makes a brief comeback

Remember spring? After several days of cold, damp weather, it’s back — at least briefly, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“We have a lot of sunshine today and finally some mild afternoon temperatures,” Schack said. “We will keep it dry today.”

Schack said today’s weather is “the pick of the week” with the high of 65 degrees expected by late afternoon and only a few high clouds drifting through mostly sunny skies. The average high temperature for this date is 71. Winds will be from the west, 5 to 10 mph.

“Our temperature this morning bottomed out at 33 degrees,” Schack said. The record low for this date is 31. “A chilly start to our morning, but precipitation is staying off to the south and west of us.”

At 8:30 a.m., the temperature had risen to 40 degrees, with a northeast 3-mph wind making the windchill 38 degrees, she said. The temperatures should climb up to the 60s by early afternoon, she predicted.

“Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible, starting tonight,” Schack said. There’s a 60 percent chance of precipitation on Thursday morning, she said.

The clouds will thicken up overnight and the temperature will drop off to a low of 42 degrees by early Thursday morning, she said.

“I think the best chance to get wet tomorrow is during the morning hours,” she said. “It looks like by 7 a.m. tomorrow morning, there’s a nice chance for precipitation.”

Thursday’s high will reach only 53 degrees with a northeast 10- to 20-mph wind making it seem a little cooler.

Friday’s morning low will be 42, with Friday’s afternoon high reaching only 53 degrees. There’s also a chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms Friday afternoon, she said.
