Graduating seniors granted Chancellor’s Student Awards

Ten graduating seniors at Kansas University have been named recipients of the 2005 Chancellor’s Student Awards.

The awards are given annually to recognize students’ academic, volunteer and leadership accomplishments. Students will be honored during a reception May 21, the day before commencement, and will sit on the platform during commencement exercises.

Winners are selected by a committee from nominations by students, faculty and staff.

Those selected:

  • Gaston Araoz of Bolivia, Donald K. Alderson Award for a student who demonstrated loyalty to and interest in the university and who has been active in student activities and services that benefit other students.
  • Anna Clovis of Fairfax, Okla., Caryl K. Smith Student Leader Award, which goes to a student who is a member of a fraternity or sorority and who has demonstrated commitment to the chapter, the Greek community, the university and the Lawrence community.
  • Jeff Dunlap of Leawood and Susan Henry of Fort Scott, Agnes Wright Strickland Award for a senior in recognition of academic record, demonstrated leadership in matters of university concern, respect among fellow students and indications of future dedication to service in the university.
  • Ruth Anne French-Hodson of Partridge and Josh Meyers of Wichita, Class of 1913 Award for senior who shows evidence of intelligence, devotion to studies, personal character and promise of usefulness to society.
  • Katie Jensen of Coon Rapids, Minn., and Mark Lyda of Centennial, Colo., Alexis F. Dillard Student Involvement Award.
  • Steve Munch of Bellevue, Neb., and Katie Wolff of Shawnee, Rusty Leffel Concerned Student Award to students who demonstrated a concern for furthering the ideals of the university and higher education.
