To the editor:

I recently read an article in the paper about the “Fox News blockers.” It was a rather biased article, but, hey, it’s Lawrence. I chuckled to myself: Man, if they have a problem with “conservative” media, then I should advertise the blockers for ABC, CBS, PBS, NBC, MSNBC, CNN, television news channels.

I don’t see how liberals are so threatened by Fox News. On a good night Fox News reaches 1.5 million viewers, and it justly dominates the cable ratings. However, the six channels that tend to slant left have over 30 million viewers a night.

What Fox News has done is great; it was the first challenger against the liberal status quo media that dominated 30 years before its creation. In debates, it allowed — gasp — for a conservative side to issues. At the same time, liberal views are expressed on the channel. It’s also put a good liberal radio talk show host Alan Colmes on the airwaves. While they must be thinking Fox (Faux as the opponents tend to call it) and its 1.6 million viewers must be after them, should I be worried that ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, CNN and PBS and its combined 30-plus million viewers are after me. Oh dear. This has been food for thought.
