No. 16 Aggies on deck for Kansas baseball

? Kansas University’s baseball schedule isn’t becoming any easier.

Last weekend it was No. 7-ranked Nebraska; this weekend it’s No. 16-ranked Texas A&M. The Jayhawks and Aggies will collide in a three-game series with games tonight, Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.

KU won one of three games against the Cornhuskers and will go into the A&M series with a 21-10 overall mark. The Jayhawks snapped NU’s 11-game winning streak with a 7-6 victory Saturday, but the Huskers captured the last two games.

KU freshman outfielder John Allman has been hot at the plate in his last 10 games, hitting .500 (15-for-30) to increase his overall batting average this season to a team-leading .391.

On the hill, senior Mike Zagurski (4-2, 4.21 ERA) and junior Kodiak Quick (7-2, 3.29 ERA) have anchored an improved pitching staff. Zagurski, who is scheduled to start today’s 7 p.m. game, entered the week leading the Big 12 Conference in strikeouts.

Quick, the scheduled starter in Sunday’s 1 p.m. contest, leads the league with seven wins. Clint Schaumbach (2-2, 4.16 ERA) is the projected starter in Saturday’s 7 p.m. game.

Texas A&M has a 20-9 overall record and a 2-4 mark in Big 12 play after dropping its first two conference series to Texas Tech and Oklahoma.

KU’s next home game will be Wednesday against Wichita State at 7 p.m. at Hoglund Ballpark.
