Storms to thunder in tonight

Cloudy skies and temperatures in the 80s are on tap for the last day of September.

“It’s a warm and dry end to the month,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. But showers, thunderstorms and a fall blast of cool weather are in store starting tonight, Schack said.

Schack said this morning’s temperatures had started out in the low 50s by 8:30 a.m., and would climb to a high of 81 by late afternoon. Clouds will be thickening up in the afternoon, bringing a chance of wet weather overnight.

“Late tonight into Friday morning, we’ll see some thunderstorms,” Schack said. The National Weather Service says the chance for showers and thunderstorms is 60 percent after 1 a.m. Friday.

Schack said a cold front will head into the area on Friday afternoon, bringing another round of thundertorms. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph, Schack said. Friday’s high will reach 71.

“We’ll have a very fall-like blast heading our way for the weekend,” she said.

Friday night will begin to clear, with the low dropping to 41 by early Saturday morning.

The high will reach 63 by Saturday afternoon under mostly clear skies. The temperature will plunge overnight to a low of 39 by early Sunday morning, with the high reaching 69 by Sunday afternoon.
