Haskell set to start drills

Haskell Indian Nations University’s men’s and women’s basketball teams will conduct their first basketball practices of the season during a Midnight Madness celebration starting at 10 tonight at Coffin Sports Complex.

In addition to short scrimmages by both squads at midnight, HINU students can take part in contests like a two-ball shootout for prizes and a halfcourt shot for paid tuition for a semester.

“Obviously, this isn’t quite the same thing as KU’s Midnight Madness,” HINU men’s coach Jamie Morrison said. “But nonetheless, our students here are pretty passionate about basketball. And I can definitely tell you that our guys are ready to roll the balls out and get going.”

The men’s season starts Nov. 2 in Baldwin with a 5:30 p.m. game against Baker, while the HINU women tip off Nov. 5 in Oklahoma City against Mid America Christian.
