Firebirds win in Shawnee; Lions’ Wilson 2nd in Olathe

? Free State High’s girls golf team placed first and Lawrence High was sixth at Wednesday’s Shawnee Mission Northwest four-player scramble at Tomahawk Hills.

Lawrence High’s team of Courtney Kincaid, Molly Mitchell, Emily Nikodym and Britney Laughlin placed sixth with 44 strokes in the nine-hole event.

Free State’s squad tallied 34 strokes.

Also Wednesday, Lawrence High’s Sydney Wilson placed second overall at the Olathe East Invitational at Ironhorse Golf Club, shooting 77.

“Our girls played well as a team. They went out and used a lot of shots from each girl,” LHS coach Mike Lewis said. “We entered Sydney into that tournament on short notice. She wanted to get in an 18-hole event before league and did well.”

Next up is the Sunflower League meet Monday at Meadowbrook County Club in Kansas City.
