Chiefs add punter, wide receiver

? The Kansas City Chiefs signed punter Jason Baker to a one-year contract Saturday and waived the newcomer who beat out Baker in the exhibition season.

Baker was the Chiefs’ punter in 2003, but lost his job to Steve Cheek earlier this month.

Cheek averaged 44.7 yards per punt in the Chiefs’ first two games but has a calf injury and had been listed as questionable for today’s game against Houston.

Also Saturday, Kansas City bolstered its thin receiving corps by activating wideout Chris Horn from the practice squad and signing him to a two-year deal. To make room on the active roster, Kansas City cut third-string quarterback Damon Huard.

The Chiefs already have lost wide receiver Marc Boerigter to knee surgery and promising tight end Kris Wilson because of a broken leg, and wideout Eddie Kennison is questionable for today’s game because of a pulled hamstring.

The Chiefs did not release terms of either contract.
