Humane Society benefit puts items up for auction

The Lawrence Humane Society will hold its 10th annual Pawsible Dream Auction fund-raiser tonight.

A silent auction will begin at 6 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Holidome, 200 McDonald Drive. A live auction will follow at 8 p.m.

Midge Grinstead, Humane Society director, said more than 500 items had been donated for tonight’s auctions.

Donations include hotel packages, tickets and passes for movie theaters and restaurants, Kansas University sports memorabilia, and tickets to Chiefs games and racing at the Kansas Speedway.

The Humane Society hopes to raise about $55,000, Grinstead said.

Tickets for the event cost $15 for a single, $25 for a pair. Tickets can be purchased through the Lawrence Humane Society in advance and will be available at the door.

Grant will help museum create photo database

The Spencer Museum of Art at Kansas University has been awarded a $149,061 grant to create a digital record of its collection.

The grant is part of the Museums for America project at the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services.

Only about 500 of the museum’s 24,450 works are on display at a time. The grant will allow the museum to complete a digital photographic documentation of the collection and enter the photos into a database.

The digital records will be available to visitors through a terminal at the museum and on its Web site, Spencer Museum of Art.
