ACC Takes Lead: Alvamar Country Club women’s golf team took over first place in the Greater Kansas City League on Friday at Milburn CC in K.C., Mo. Alvamar leads Leawood South, 242.5 to 242, heading into the next match Sept. 30 at Alvamar CC. Alvamar team members are Darlene Allen, Charneil Swenson, Elaine Brady, Bebe Arbuckle, Linda Swain, Phyllis Fast, Rhonda Consolver and Sheila Collier.

Renick Hole-in-One: Bill Renick used an 8-iron to ace the 156-yard No. 2 hole Saturday at Alvamar Country Club. His wife, Deb Renick, witnessed the shot.

Beisner Ties Record: Kent Beisner tied a Jayhawk Golf Club record by shooting a 5-under-par 67 to win Saturday’s JGC tournament at Alvamar Public. Van Reichert was runner-up with a 71 and Tom Dennis third with a 75. In net scoring, Ted Johnson was low with a 70. Chris Anderson, Bob Carlson and Andy Devin all recorded 72s.

Long Drive Qualifier: Eric Seim of Topeka won the open division of Sunday’s Long Drive qualifier at Eudora Riverview Golf Course. Mike Farve of Lawrence was runner-up. Brett Picotte of Willard, Mo., won the senior division and Kortney Gentner of Centralia, Mo., captured the women’s division.

KU Soccer Clinic Today: Kansas University soccer players and coaches will conduct a free clinic for kindergarten through eighth-graders at 6:30 p.m. today at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex. Following the clinic, posters will be distributed and players will be available for autographs.

LHS Baseball: First-year Lawrence High baseball coach Brad Stoll will conduct a meeting for prospective players, including freshmen, and their parents at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the LHS Commons area.

Davis-Aleshire Win: Rich Davis and Joe Aleshire combined to shoot a 70 and won Eagle Bend Men’s Club’s member-guest tournament by one stroke over Jim Hill and Denlon Griest. Steve Grant and Josh Grant won the second flight. Don Brethauer and Jeff Nus were runners-up.

Flames, Jayhawks Trials: Tryouts for the Flames girls basketball teams will be Saturday afternoon at Sport 2 Sport with the tryouts for the Jayhawks boys teams scheduled the afternoon of Sept. 26. For information, call Nick Fergus at 843-4263.
