Injury Accidents

  • A Perry woman was killed Thursday in a two-car collision in the 8900 block of Ferguson Road in Jefferson County. Joyce Ann Bond, 57, was driving south in the northbound lane when her 1994 Buick struck an oncoming 2004 GMC. The driver of the other car, John Petty, 17, and his passenger, Bradon Hewitt, 16, were injured. Both were taken to St. Francis Hospital in Topeka, but their conditions were not available.
  • Lawrence resident Christi Gilbert was taken to the Lawrence Memorial Hospital emergency room Friday evening after Kansas University police pulled her over in a damaged car that appeared to have been in a recent accident. Sgt. Gary Wieden said Gilbert was on Memorial Drive when an officer found her driving a maroon Mitsubishi Galant with obvious damage. The front driver’s side bumper and the car’s hood were mangled.

When officers approached the vehicle, they found Gilbert covered in blood, some of which had started to dry. Gilbert was disoriented and appeared to have head trauma. Wieden said police did not know where or how the damage to the car occurred, but that Gilbert was returning to Lawrence from an event in Kansas City.
