Baker to face CMU today

? Baker University’s football team will be hoping for an encore performance today from quarterback Brian Sheppard.

Sheppard, a transfer from Southeastern Louisiana, completed 21 passes for 328 yards and two touchdowns in a season-opening 34-24 win Sept. 4 over Evangel.

Sheppard will be back under center today when the Wildcats continue Heart of America Conference play against Central Methodist.

Kickoff will be at 1:30 p.m. at Davis Field on the CMU campus.

Central Methodist, picked to finish last in the league in the preseason coaches poll, stunned Avila, 7-6, in its opener last week in Kansas City, Mo. CMU scored its only touchdown on a 63-yard run by Jamar Parrish. Avila’s lone points came on a pair of field goals.

Baker next will return home Sept. 18 to tangle with Missouri Valley.
