Chicago Board of Trade

Chicago (ap) — Grain futures moved mostly higher Wednesday on the Chicago Board of Trade. Soybean futures were unchanged.

Wheat for December delivery rose 2 1/2 cents to $3.19 3/4 a bushel; December corn rose 1/4 cent to $2.26 3/4 a bushel; December oats remained unchanged at $1.47 1/2 a bushel; November soybeans remained unchanged at $5.83 1/2 a bushel.

Beef futures increased while pork futures finished mixed on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.

October live cattle rose .53 cent to 82.90 cents a pound; October feeder cattle rose 1.50 cent to $1.0807 a pound; October lean hogs fell .57 cent to 64.55 cents a pound; February pork bellies rose .30 cent to 96.05 cents a pound.

Compared to last Wednesday, slaughter steers and heifers scarce. Slaughter cows sold steady to 2.00 lower. Slaughter bulls traded steady. Slaughter cattle process under pressure as beef packers cutting kills but boxed beef cutouts continue to work lower. Choice carcass cutouts at 130.26 and Select at 126.85. Cutouts on cutter cow carcasses 115.00. NOTE: Starting Monday September 13, 2004 slaughter cattle will go back to the regular schedule and sell on Monday’s.

Slaughter Cows: Breaking 70-80 percent lean 50.00-54.00, high dressing 54.00-56.00, low dressing 45.00-50.00. Boning 80-85 percent lean 50.00-56.00, high dressing 56.00-58.00, low dressing 47.50-51.00. Lean 85-90 percent lean 43.50-49.00, low dressing 38.50-43.00.

Slaughter Bulls: Yield Grade 1-2 1500-2100 lbs 64.00-69.00, high dressing 68.00-72.00.

Bred Cows: Medium and Large 1-2 5-7 year old tested in 2nd and 3rd stage of pregnancy 1185-1450 lbs 685.00-835.00 per head; short and solid to broken mouthed 995-1315 lbs in 2nd and 3rd stage 635.00-700.00.

Estimated Hogs Receipts: 200. Compared to Tuesday, barrows and gilts sold .50 lower; 46-50 percent lean 230-280 lbs 50.00-50.50. Sows: Steady; 1-2 300-500 lbs 40.00-41.00; 1-3 500-700 lbs 42.00-45.00. Boars: Steady; 300-700 lbs 10.00.
