Bank robbed in south Lawrence

In this camera phone photo, Lawrence police discuss their investigation of a bank robbery this afternoon at Emprise Bank, 2436 Iowa Street.

Lawrence Police and the FBI are searching for a man who robbed a south Lawrence bank this afternoon — without brandishing a weapon.

The robbery occurred about 3:25 p.m. today at Emprise Bank, 2436 Iowa St., said Sgt. Dan Ward, a spokesman for Lawrence police.

Ward said a white male, 50 to 60 years old, who was six feet tall and was wearing a ball cap and aviator-style sunglasses, came into the bank and demanded money. He did not display a weapon.

After getting an undisclosed amount of money from the teller, the man left on foot, going south, Ward said.

Officers were canvassing the area this afternoon and interviewing the bank teller and looking over the crime scene. They were also trying to get the bank’s security camera video, Ward said.

Police are asking that anyone with information about the robberycontact the Lawrence Police Department Detective Division at (785) 830-7430 or the Crime Stoppers Tips hotline at (785) 843-TIPS.
