Second Marlins game postponed by Frances

Miami — The Florida Marlins postponed Saturday’s game against the Chicago Cubs as Hurricane Frances moved closer to the east coast of Florida.

The Marlins already had postponed Friday night’s game against the Cubs. No makeup dates have been scheduled, and the Marlins were waiting until today to decide whether to delay the third game of the series Sunday.

Marlins spokesman Steve Copses said there was no chance the games would be played at Wrigley Field.

Yanks’ Brown breaks non-throwing hand

New York — Yankees pitcher Kevin Brown broke his non-throwing hand punching a clubhouse wall in frustration during the New York’s 3-1 loss to the Baltimore Orioles on Friday night.

“You just cant do this,” general manager Brian Cashman said. “You’ve got to keep your emotions in check.”

Brown (10-4) dropped to 1-3 in his last five starts and 3-8 lifetime against Baltimore. He allowed three runs and five hits in six innings.

Giambi still silent despite report

New York — Yankees slugger Jason Giambi still wants to keep his medical situation private, even though a newspaper report Friday detailed the location and treatment of his benign tumor.

Citing three anonymous major-league sources, the Daily News reported that Giambi had been getting treatment for a tumor in his pituitary gland.

The newspaper said the treatment included a form of steroids that did not enhance athletic performance.

Red Sox outfielders’ suspensions overturned

Boston — Red Sox outfielders Gabe Kapler and Trot Nixon had their three-game suspensions overturned Friday for their roles in an on-field brawl with the New York Yankees on July 24. Alex Rodriguez and Jason Varitek already have served four-game suspensions. After Bronson Arroyo hit Rodriguez with a pitch, Rodriguez started talking, Varitek pushed the Yankee third baseman in the face and players rushed from their dugouts.
